Who built The Shard?

The Shard was designed by architect Renzo Piano and built by Sellar Property Group. It has become an iconic landmark of the London skyline since its completion in November 2012.

Construction of The Shard began in March 2009 to replace Southwark Towers, an office block built in 1975. It is one of the 100 tallest buildings in the world, and is the second-tallest free-standing structure in the UK.

How tall is The Shard?

Recognisable worldwide, The Shard stands at 1,016 ft (310 m) in height, making it the tallest building in London. It is also almost twice the height of any other viewing platform in the capital.

For visitors, the viewing platforms – situated on floors 68, 69 and 72 – provide the best panoramas of the city. Up in the sky, you'll have a 360-degree, 40-mile view over London and beyond. From the viewing platform, the city unfolds beneath your feet, brought to life by digital displays that allow you to learn more about the streets below.

Look up, and you'll see the iconic shards of glass that form the top of the skyscraper as they fade upwards into the sky.
