365Tickets

Somerset House is a grand neoclassical building between the Strand and the river Thames, east of Waterloo Bridge.

Formerly the site of a Tudor palace, it has been used as a location for several films, and is now a major arts and cultural centre with a year round schedule of exhibitions, and it houses the Courtauld Gallery, which has an impressive collection of impressionist paintings and Old Masters.

It aims to be a creative hub and a platform for London’s artists and designers, and holds many free displays and family workshops.

Open air concerts and film shows are held in the courtyard, in the summer months the 55 dancing fountains perform, and in winter the ice skating rink is very popular. Visitors can also discover the history of Somerset House on two free guided tours - Historical Highlights and the Old Palaces tour.
