Every town or city has museums and galleries, ranging from the large municipal museums containing artefacts of historical and social significance, galleries showing fine art and modern art and sculpture, to smaller specialist museums of almost anything such as toys or vintage cars.

Open air museums can take you back in time through reconstructed villages where you can see demonstrations of crafts, trades and food preparation of the era.

Maritime, science and natural history museums are always popular, and usually have cafes and gift shops and at commercial art galleries visitors can purchase paintings and craftwork by local artists.
